Media Analysis & Critical Comprehension

In today’s mediascape, critical comprehension strategies are more important than ever before. Yet students rarely have the opportunity to hone these skills in a one-to-one or small group setting with a trusted mentor.

In this discussion-based class, we select current articles from a range of media sources that align with the student’s interests, read together, and discuss what we’ve learned. Students are then given short prompts and articulate their responses in writing based on our in class discussion.

Media Analysis and Critical Comprehension offers youth an opportunity to expand their knowledge in various subjects while increasing their vocabulary, and learning how to analyze writing and communication strategies in action. They leave each session feeling more informed, and even more curious about the world around them.
